Not gonna lie, I’ve been side-eyeing that annual fee lately, too. Used to feel like a no-brainer, but now I’m wondering if it’s just nostalgia talking. Last time I actually needed a tow, it took almost two hours - and that was in broad daylight, not even rush hour. Kind of defeats the “peace of mind” thing when you’re sweating bullets on the shoulder for that long.

I keep a jump starter and a can of fix-a-flat in the trunk now. Not fancy, but it’s saved my butt more than once. Honestly, the price hike stings more when the service feels slower. I get that things change, but if I’m paying premium, I want at least decent response times.

High-end car or not, nobody wants to shell out for a tow. At this point, the backup plan is almost more reliable than AAA itself... which is kinda wild when you think about it.

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. The last time I called AAA for a flat, it was a 90-minute wait and I was out in the sticks - not even a busy area. Felt like forever. Used to be, you’d call and someone would show up before you even finished your snack.

- I’ve started carrying a little toolkit, jumper cables, and a portable air compressor. Not fancy, but honestly, it’s faster than waiting half the day.
- The price hikes are rough, especially when you’re not seeing better service. That “peace of mind” factor just isn’t what it used to be.
- I do still keep the membership for long road trips, mostly for the hotel discounts and the “just in case” scenarios, but I’m definitely relying on myself more these days.

I guess it’s still better than nothing if you’re stranded far from home, but yeah, it’s wild how much more I trust my own backup gear now. Maybe it’s just the way things are going, but it does sting a little when you remember how good it used to be.

Honestly, I just signed up for AAA this year and maybe my expectations were too low, but it’s been fine so far. Had a dead battery in a grocery store lot and they showed up in about 40 minutes. Not lightning fast, but better than waiting for a random tow company. Maybe it’s just luck or depends on the area? I get the frustration with price hikes though - feels like everything’s going up lately, not just roadside stuff.

I’ve noticed the same thing with response times - they’re not always speedy, but usually reliable enough. I’ve had AAA for over a decade, and honestly, the service quality seems to swing a bit depending on where you are and what time you call. The price hikes sting, though. Out of curiosity, has anyone actually compared AAA’s roadside coverage to what their auto insurance or credit card offers? I wonder if the value’s still there compared to those alternatives, especially with costs creeping up every year...

I actually looked into this last year after my AAA renewal jumped up again. Turns out, my car insurance (Progressive) offers roadside for way less, but the catch is they only cover tows up to 15 miles and don’t do things like trip interruption. My credit card had some roadside perks too, but it’s all pay-per-use and a bit clunky. For us, with three drivers in the house, AAA still felt safer - though I do wish their prices would chill out a bit...
