anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

Honestly, I’ve noticed the same trend—policies are getting denser, and exclusions seem to multiply every year. It’s wild how something as basic as parking on the street can suddenly become a coverage landmine. I get why companies tighten things up, but it’s not doing consumers any favors. Out of curiosity, has anyone actually tried to challenge one of these “hidden” exclusions and gotten anywhere? I’ve seen mixed results, but sometimes a well-documented complaint can move the needle a bit...

Yeah, I’ve run into that too—especially with older vehicles where the policy language just doesn’t seem to keep up. I actually pushed back on a “storage” exclusion once, since my car was parked in my own driveway, not some random lot. Took a ton of paperwork and a few phone calls, but they did end up making an exception. Makes me wonder how many people just give up before even trying... Have you ever tried documenting everything, like photos and timestamps? Sometimes that helps, but it’s definitely not a guarantee.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about the policy language lagging behind. A couple years back, my old Civic got a busted window while it was parked overnight—right in front of my house. When I called AAA, they tried to say it was “stored” and not “in use,” which apparently made it a whole thing. I remember thinking, like, what’s the point of having insurance if they’re gonna nitpick over where my car’s sitting?

I did the photo thing too—snapped pics of the driveway, the car, even the timestamp on my phone—but it still took them forever to process the claim. I actually started keeping a little notebook in my glove box just to jot down details in case something goes sideways again. Not sure it really helps, but it makes me feel a bit more in control.

Funny thing is, I used to recommend AAA to everyone because they were so straightforward. Lately, though, it seems like you have to jump through a bunch of hoops just to get basic stuff covered. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw with who picks up the phone, but it definitely feels different now.

That “stored vs. in use” thing drives me nuts too. It’s like, who parks their car in the living room? Of course it’s outside sometimes. Honestly, the policy language is ancient—half the time it feels like it was written when people still had horse-drawn buggies. I get why you keep a notebook; documentation is gold, but it shouldn’t feel like prepping for a court case every time you file a claim. I wish companies would just update their definitions and make things clearer for everyone.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s like they’re looking for any excuse to dodge responsibility. I get why you keep notes, but man, it shouldn’t be this complicated. Makes me miss when insurance felt like it actually had your back... or maybe I just remember it that way because I was younger and less jaded.
