anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

I get where you're coming from, but honestly, AAA's still saved my bacon a few times. Yeah, the fine print is a pain and the “free” part doesn’t always go as far as you’d hope, but compared to some of the other roadside services I’ve tried, they’re still more reliable. Had a classic Mustang towed last year—wasn’t cheap, but at least they didn’t leave me stranded. Guess it’s all about knowing what you’re actually getting before you need it...

That’s the trick, right? I learned the hard way on a cross-country trip—thought my “free” tow would cover me, but turns out there’s a mileage cap. Step one: always check the fine print before you hit the road. Step two: keep snacks in the glove box, because waiting for a tow in the middle of nowhere is brutal. Still, I’d rather deal with AAA’s quirks than roll the dice with some random roadside number off Google.

Totally get that. I’ve been there—snacks and water are lifesavers. Ever notice how the response times seem to vary wildly depending on where you’re stuck? I swear, in some spots it’s like they forget you exist. Does anyone actually read those policy updates they send out, or just hope for the best?

Used to be, if I called AAA, they'd show up before I'd even finished my granola bar. Now? Last time I broke down, it was a two-hour wait and I was barely off a main highway. Snacks and water are non-negotiable for me now. I've got a little emergency kit in the trunk too—never know when you'll need jumper cables or a flashlight.

About those policy updates... can't say I read them cover to cover, but I do skim for changes. They sneak in new exclusions or tinker with coverage zones sometimes. Noticed lately they've been limiting how far they'll tow without charging extra. That caught me off guard once—thought I had 100 miles free, turns out it was less unless you pay for the "plus" plan.

Response times definitely depend on where you are. Out in the sticks, it feels like you're invisible. In the city, it's better but not what it used to be. Honestly, I miss when customer service felt more personal. Now it's all call centers and apps.

Maybe I'm just getting more cautious as my cars get older, but I don't trust roadside assistance like I used to. Always double-check the fine print and keep my own backup plans handy. Learned that one the hard way after a long night waiting by the side of the road with nothing but stale crackers...

I’ve noticed the same thing with AAA lately—response times just aren’t what they used to be, and those policy changes are easy to miss unless you’re really looking for them. I got tripped up by the tow distance too; thought I was covered for the long haul, then got hit with an extra charge. Now I keep a jump starter and a cheap tire inflator in the trunk, just in case. It’s not quite peace of mind, but at least I’m not totally stuck if help takes a while. The personal touch is definitely missing these days... guess that’s just how things are going across the board.
