anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing lately. I actually started keeping a folder with all my claim numbers and policy docs, just in case. It’s wild how much more complicated it’s gotten. I remember when I first got my car (not exactly cheap to insure, by the way), the rep would just handle everything in one call. Now it feels like I’m getting bounced between departments or waiting for someone to “call me back” - which sometimes doesn’t even happen.
Has anyone else had issues with them not recognizing their coverage details? I had a weird situation last year where roadside assistance tried to tell me my plan didn’t cover towing, even though I’d literally paid extra for it. Took three calls and a bunch of emails to sort out. Makes me wonder if it’s just growing pains or if they’re cutting corners.
I get wanting to save money, but it’s frustrating when you’re paying a premium for a nicer car and still have to double-check every detail. Is it just me, or does it seem like the more you spend, the more hoops you have to jump through? I’m almost tempted to shop around again, but I don’t know if the grass is any greener with the other companies.
Curious if anyone’s actually switched recently and found better service, or is this just the new normal everywhere?
Honestly, I hear this a lot lately. The whole “call you back” thing is becoming standard, and it’s not just AAA. Most big carriers are shifting to more automated systems and outsourcing, which means more hoops for everyone. I’ve seen people pay extra for coverage and still get denied until they dig up paperwork or escalate. It’s not always about cutting corners, but sometimes it feels like they’re just not training staff well enough.
You mentioned shopping around - did you actually get quotes from other companies, or just thinking about it? Curious if you found any that actually break down coverage clearly, or if it’s just the same runaround everywhere.
Title: AAA Insurance Service Feels Off Lately
I’ve seen people pay extra for coverage and still get denied until they dig up paperwork or escalate.
That’s been my experience too, but I’m not convinced it’s just about automation or outsourcing. I get that big companies want to streamline, but it feels like AAA’s lost some of that “personal touch” they used to have. I remember calling them years ago about my ‘68 Mustang - got a real person who actually knew what classic coverage meant. Now, half the time I’m explaining why my car isn’t in their database.
I did shop around a bit when my renewal came up. Hagerty was the only one that actually broke down coverage in a way that made sense for older cars. Most others just lump everything together, or they try to upsell you on stuff you don’t need. Honestly, I don’t think it’s the same runaround everywhere, but you have to look for the niche providers. The big names all seem to be moving in the same direction - more automation, less actual help.
Not sure if it’s a training issue or just that they’re trying to cut costs wherever possible. Either way, it’s frustrating. I get that paperwork is important, but if I’m paying for a certain level of coverage, I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops every time I need something simple. Maybe I’m just nostalgic for how things used to be, but it really does feel different now.
Curious if anyone’s had better luck with smaller or specialty insurers. The big carriers just don’t seem to “get it” when it comes to anything outside the standard daily driver.
Yeah, I’m new to this whole insurance thing and honestly, it’s kind of wild. I thought AAA was supposed to be the “easy” option, but I’ve already had to call twice just to figure out what’s actually covered. Feels like I need a decoder ring just to read my policy... Maybe I should’ve just stuck with my mom’s advice and wrapped my car in bubble wrap.

Totally get what you mean. I’ve been with AAA for a while and it used to feel a lot more straightforward. Now, every time I try to check what’s actually covered, I end up with more questions than answers. I’ve started keeping a little notebook just to track what they tell me on the phone. Bubble wrap might actually be less stressful, honestly. At least you’d know what you’re getting.
