Peace of mind counts for something.

Couldn’t agree more. I tried Metromile for a year because I thought, hey, I barely drive during the week, why not save a few bucks? But the hassle with the dongle was real—one time it stopped working after my battery died and customer service was a nightmare. Plus, I hated knowing they could see everywhere I went. In the end, the savings weren’t worth the headache. Flat rate might be boring, but at least it’s predictable.

Totally get where you’re coming from. Those dongles can be more trouble than they’re worth—one client of mine called it “the tattletale in my glovebox.” The idea of saving money is great, but if you’re constantly worrying about tech glitches or feeling like you’re being tracked, it kind of defeats the purpose. Sometimes boring and predictable really is the way to go, especially when it comes to insurance. At least you know what you’re getting every month... no surprises.

I get the worry about being tracked, but honestly, I’ve found the mileage-based stuff pretty fair. I switched to Metromile last year and the dongle’s been a non-issue for me—set it and forget it. The savings are real if you don’t drive much. As for glitches, I haven’t run into any yet, but I guess tech can always act up. For me, the trade-off’s worth it, especially since I’m not on the road that much anymore.

I’ve been using Milewise from Allstate for a few months now—honestly, it’s been pretty smooth. The little tracker thing freaked me out at first (felt like my car was judging my every move), but I barely notice it now. I do drive more than I thought, though, so the savings aren’t as huge as I hoped. Still, it’s cheaper than my old plan. Only weird part: sometimes it lags updating my mileage, but nothing major. Guess it’s just the price of tech...

I’ve been on Metromile for a couple years now, and your experience sounds pretty familiar. Here’s what I’ve noticed:

- The tracker thing took some getting used to, but after a while, it’s just another gadget in the car.
- I thought I was a “low mileage” driver until I started seeing the numbers add up. Funny how those quick errands sneak up on you.
- My updates lag sometimes too—especially if I park in the garage. Not a huge deal, but it does make me double-check my bill.
- Still, my rates are lower than they were with my old insurer, so I can’t complain too much.

Curious—have you had to deal with customer service yet? Metromile’s been decent for me, but I’ve heard mixed things about Allstate’s support for these newer plans.
