Would renovation debris falling on a parked car go under comprehensive?
Discussion options
If a tree branch or roofing material fell onto a stationary car during work at home, would that generally be considered a comprehensive claim, subject to the policy’s terms and deductible? I’m curious whether the cause matters, such as a storm-damaged branch versus material dropped by someone doing the work.
That seems different from materials shifting or falling off a vehicle while they’re being transported, but I’m not sure how insurers draw that line. Which policy wording or exclusions would be worth checking before assuming either scenario is covered?

If someone doing the roofing work dropped material onto the parked car, the contractor’s liability coverage may also be relevant, especially if negligence was involved. That could give you a route through the contractor’s insurer as well as your own auto policy; which one responds, or whether both are involved, depends on the facts and policy terms. A storm-damaged branch is a different responsibility question, even if comprehensive coverage might still be worth checking.
