Anyone Else Feel Like Car Insurance Jargon Is Another Language?

The deductible is where the definitions become practical: it’s the amount you pay out of pocket before your coverage pays the rest of a covered claim.

A small table can make a policy much easier to read:

- Collision: damage from hitting another car or object, plus the deductible
- Comprehensive: damage from things like theft, hail, fire, or hitting an animal, plus the deductible
- Liability: damage or injuries you cause to other people, with separate bodily-injury and property-damage limits and usually no deductible

That makes it easier to see when a small claim may not be worth filing. If storm damage is only a little more than the comprehensive deductible, the payment could be pretty small. I’d also check whether glass, rental reimbursement, or roadside assistance has its own deductible or limit, since those details are easy to miss.
