- Totally agree on severity hitting harder than quantity. Had a buddy with a DUI and his insurance quotes were straight-up nightmare fuel.
- Funny enough, my own speeding ticket (15 over...oops) barely nudged my rates. Guess insurers see donuts and DUIs as equally reckless?
- Curious though, anyone notice if luxury or sports cars get penalized even more harshly for minor infractions? Feels like insurers assume we're all secretly racing around town...

Had a coworker with a Mustang who swore his rates jumped way more after a minor speeding ticket compared to mine in a Civic. Maybe insurers really do think sports car drivers are always itching to floor it?

My older brother had a similar experience. He drove a Camaro back in college—nothing fancy, just an older model he fixed up himself. Anyway, he got pulled over once for going maybe 10 mph over the limit, nothing crazy. But when renewal time came around, his insurance jumped way higher than mine did after I got caught doing about the same in my mom's old Corolla. He was pretty annoyed and called the insurance company to ask why. They basically told him straight up that certain cars are flagged as higher risk because statistically, people driving them tend to speed more often or get into more accidents.

Seems kinda unfair to lump everyone together like that, but I guess insurers just play the numbers game. Your coworker's Mustang probably falls into that category too. Sucks for him, but at least your Civic keeps you under their radar...for now anyway.

That's pretty much spot on—insurance companies definitely play the stats game. When I switched from my old Civic to a newer Mazda3, I braced myself for a premium hike, but surprisingly it stayed about the same. Guess insurers don't see Mazdas as risky? Anyway, it's frustrating to get lumped into a category just because of the car you drive. At least your Civic is still keeping your wallet happy...for now.

Have you ever tried insuring a Subaru? I commute daily with an Impreza, and honestly, I thought it'd be reasonable since it's supposed to be safe and all that. But nope—my premium jumped noticeably from my older Corolla. Makes me wonder, do insurance companies just randomly decide what's risky? Temporary coverage crossed my mind once when lending my car to family...but is it really worth the hassle and cost for short-term peace of mind? I'm still skeptical.
