"knowing my luck, I'd probably ding my bumper the day after upping it, lol."

Haha, totally feel you on that oneβ€”I swear the universe has a twisted sense of humor. I raised my deductible a couple years back thinking I was being super savvy. Literally two weeks later, a truck kicked up some gravel and cracked my windshield. Had to pay out of pocket, but honestly, even with that mishap, I've still saved way more overall. Might be worth it eventually...just gotta brace yourself for the inevitable "luck tax," lol.

Haha, "luck tax" is spot-on. I've been there tooβ€”upped my deductible to save some cash since my premiums were killing me (young driver + speeding tickets = insurance nightmare). Sure enough, within a month, I backed into a pole in a parking lot. Minor dent, but still annoying as hell to pay out-of-pocket.

But honestly, even with my less-than-stellar driving record, crunching the numbers showed me that higher deductibles still made sense long-term. A few hundred bucks here and there stings, but compared to the monthly savings over a couple years, it's still a net positive. Just gotta mentally prepare yourself for those random mishaps...and maybe park a little further away from poles and curbs, haha.

Haha, been there myself. Honestly, the best way to handle the "luck tax" is to just accept it's gonna happen eventually and stash a bit of cash aside each month. Think of it as your "pole-hitting fund." 😂 Also, pro tip: always do a quick walk-around before hopping in your carβ€”saved me from backing over a random shopping cart once...

Totally get the idea of a "pole-hitting fund," haha...but honestly, instead of stashing cash aside every month, wouldn't it make more sense just to bump up your deductible and keep that extra money for gas or snacks on road trips? Just my two cents.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did when I was younger. Honestly, if you're careful enough not to hit poles regularly (lol), higher deductibles can save you a decent chunk each month. Just gotta be disciplined enough to actually set aside some of that saved cash for emergencies...or at least pretend you will. Either way, totally valid approach.
