"Curious though...has anyone here actually had to use those ultra-specific coverages? Like meteor-level weird stuff?"

Funny you mention meteorsβ€”I haven't had anything quite that dramatic, but I did have a friend whose parked car got absolutely wrecked by a falling tree branch during a storm. He'd skipped comprehensive coverage to save cash (can't blame him, we were all broke college kids), and it ended up costing him big-time. We joked afterward that it was the universe punishing him for parking under the only sketchy tree on campus.

Personally, I've always stuck with liability and collision too, figuring if something truly bizarre happens, I'll just chalk it up to bad luck and deal with it. But every now and then, when I'm driving behind one of those trucks hauling random junk strapped down with what looks like dental floss, I start second-guessing myself...

Has anyone else ever had one of those "near miss" moments where you suddenly wished you'd sprung for extra coverage? Or am I just paranoid from commuting too much?

Fair, but honestly, comprehensive isn't always the wallet-killer people think. Seen plenty of clients regret skipping it after hailstorms or random deer encounters...it's cheap peace of mind for life's curveballs.

True, comprehensive coverage surprised me tooβ€”wasn't as steep as I expected. But I'm curious, does it really pay off for older luxury cars? Heard mixed stories about claims vs. premiums...

Comprehensive can be a good deal, sure, but with older luxury cars it's tricky. Had a BMW pushing 12 years onceβ€”premiums weren't terrible, but when I finally had to claim for a minor fender bender, the payout barely covered repairs due to depreciation and parts costs. Honestly, might've been better off putting that money aside each month instead. Guess it depends how attached you are to the car...

Had a similar experience with an older Audi. Honestly, if you're young and premiums are steep due to driving history (speaking from experience here...), it's smarter to stash that comprehensive money aside for repairs. Saved me headaches when claims barely covered anything.
