Totally get why you'd do that—tech always seems to fail at the worst possible moment. I started printing mine out too after a similar scare. Quick tip: print two copies, stash one in your glove box and another in your wallet or purse. That way, even if you switch cars or forget one, you've still got a backup handy. It's saved me more than once, especially on those long drives through spotty coverage areas...

Good call on the double copies—tech glitches always seem to hit at the worst moments. I'd just add a couple things from experience:

- Check your state's rules regularly; SD can tweak requirements without much notice.
- Laminate or use a plastic sleeve for glove box copies—trust me, coffee spills happen.
- If you're budget-conscious like me, skip fancy holders. A simple ziplock bag works just fine.

Saved myself some hassle (and money) more than once this way...

Haha, coffee spills...been there. But heads up, laminated docs can sometimes stick together in summer heat. Learned that the hard way. Plastic sleeves or ziplocks are safer bets, especially in older rides without AC.

Good point about the heat issue—I hadn't thought of that. I usually just toss mine in a ziplock baggie and call it good. Learned my lesson after a soda can exploded in the glove box one summer...sticky mess everywhere, but at least my insurance card survived.

Speaking of insurance docs, does anyone know if South Dakota accepts digital proof on your phone during traffic stops? I've heard mixed things—some say it's fine, others insist you need physical copies. I'd rather not find out the hard way by getting pulled over and scrambling through my glove box...

Digital proof should be totally fine in South Dakota—I’ve used mine a couple times without issue. Last summer, I got pulled over near Sioux Falls (nothing serious, just a busted tail light), and when I started digging through the glove box, the officer actually suggested I just pull it up on my phone. Saved me from having to sort through a pile of old receipts and napkins...embarrassing mess, lol.

But yeah, I get the confusion—rules seem to vary state by state, and even officer by officer sometimes. To be safe, I still keep a physical copy stashed somewhere in the car, just in case my phone decides to die at the worst possible moment. Learned that lesson after my battery randomly tanked on a road trip. Murphy’s law, right?

Anyway, you should be good with digital proof, but having a backup never hurts. Better safe than sorry, especially if your glove box is anything like mine.
