Couldn't agree more. I've had my phone battery die unexpectedly in sub-zero temps, and suddenly digital insurance cards aren't so convenient. Learned the hard way to keep a printed copy tucked behind the visor—saved me some hassle during a roadside check near Rapid City last winter. SD troopers seem pretty understanding, but having paper ready just makes things smoother.

I've actually wondered about this myself. Last winter, my digital insurance card wouldn't load at all during a stop near Sioux Falls—screen froze up completely in the cold. Here's what I ended up doing after that: printed out two physical copies, laminated them (just cheap DIY laminating sheets), and put one in my glovebox and another in my wallet. Seems like overkill, maybe, but

"reliability beats convenience every single time..."
especially when you're already stressed from being pulled over.

Totally agree with your approach—digital tech is great until it decides to freeze (literally, in your case!). I had a similar experience near Rapid City last year; my phone battery tanked from the cold, and I was left awkwardly explaining to the officer why I couldn't show proof of insurance. After that, I went old-school too: printed and laminated copies stashed everywhere. Like you said,

"reliability beats convenience every single time..."
especially when you're already nervous enough about flashing lights behind you. Better safe than sorry, right?

Totally with you on the laminated copies—smart move. Another thing I've found helpful is keeping a backup charger or power bank in the glove compartment. Cold weather drains batteries fast, but if you plug your phone into a portable charger right away, it usually revives enough to show your documents. Still, like you said:

"reliability beats convenience every single time..."

Can't hurt to have multiple backups, right? Especially when dealing with SD winters...

Good call on the portable charger, saved me once when my phone died at a gas station near Aberdeen. Still, paper copies tucked away somewhere dry are my go-to...tech's great until it isn't, ya know?
