Totally agree with your point about using them as a general guideline. I drive a luxury car, but honestly, I'm still pretty budget-conscious—gas prices add up fast. I've had similar experiences where the app was off by quite a bit. Now I just stick to two or three stations I know are consistently fair-priced. Saves me from the headache of chasing pennies around town... and probably saves some gas too.

I've tried those apps a few times, and honestly, they've led me on some wild goose chases. Once drove halfway across town to save a few cents per gallon, only to find the price had jumped by the time I got there. Lesson learned—now I just wing it at my usual spots.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. Those apps are decent for a general idea, but they're rarely spot-on accurate. Have you checked if they show how recently prices were updated? Sometimes that helps gauge reliability. Also, driving across town might save a bit, but factoring in extra mileage and traffic risks...is it really worth it? I'd rather stick to familiar stations where I know the layout and traffic flow—less hassle, safer drive.

I get what you're saying about reliability. Those price-checker apps remind me of when I used to chase cheaper gas prices around town. One time, the app showed a station about 15 cents cheaper per gallon, so I thought, "why not?" and drove out of my usual route after work. Turns out, by the time I got there, either the price had jumped or the app was outdated—ended up saving maybe two bucks total. But then on my way back home, traffic was brutal and someone rear-ended me at a stoplight. Thankfully it was minor damage and insurance sorted it out quickly, but still...the hassle wasn't worth the tiny savings.

Since then, I've been skeptical about relying solely on those apps. Checking timestamps definitely helps gauge accuracy, but even then it's hit or miss. Now I just stick to my regular stations—less stress overall and fewer surprises.

Yeah, I totally get your frustration. Honestly, as someone who's dealt with plenty of claims involving minor accidents caused by unnecessary detours, your experience isn't uncommon. These apps can be helpful, but they're definitely not foolproof. A good rule of thumb is to quickly glance at timestamps and recent user comments—if they're older than a couple hours, you're basically gambling on accuracy.

Your approach of sticking to familiar stations makes sense. Sure, you might miss out on the occasional deal, but you're also avoiding the stress and potential headaches that come with chasing pennies. Like you said, sometimes the savings just aren't worth the hassle. Glad your accident was minor and sorted quickly—that's always a relief.
