Running out of gas and waiting forever for help

Also, a reflective vest and a cheap rain poncho - learned that one the hard way after getting soaked changing a tire at night.

Honestly, I don’t trust insurance roadside for anything urgent anymore. If it’s something simple like running out of gas, I’d rather call a local tow company directly. Costs a bit more, but at least you’re not stuck for half the day.

I keep a small gas can too, but I only use the ones with a tight seal and store it in a plastic bin just in case. Never had leaks, but you do get a faint smell sometimes, especially in summer. My kids complain about it, but I’d rather have that than be stranded with them on the side of the road. Just make sure it’s empty most of the time - less risk, less stink.
