Mechanic says it'll take about two weeks to fix my car, but if I pay a bit more, they can rush it and have it done in 5 days. Kinda torn here...is it worth shelling out extra cash or should I just suck it up and wait?

Hmm...sounds a bit like they're upselling you. Is the extra cash worth the convenience? If you can manage without your car for two weeks, I'd probably just wait it out and save the money.

Yeah, I agree it sounds a bit like an upsell. Have you asked exactly what "rush" means in this context? Like, are they actually putting in extra hours or just bumping you ahead of other customers? I've had mechanics offer similar deals before, and sometimes the "rush" job isn't even that much fasterβ€”just a day or two shaved off. If you can manage without the car, I'd probably hold onto the cash...unless there's something urgent you're dealing with.

Honestly, I'd be skeptical too. I've seen similar "rush" fees pop up before, and half the time it's just a fancy way of saying they're bumping someone else down the line. Maybe ask directly if they're actually doing extra work or overtimeβ€”sometimes just pushing a bit can get you clarity. Personally, unless you're stranded or have a pressing reason, I'd probably just tough it out and keep the cash...two weeks isn't forever, annoying as it might feel right now.
