A punctured rental tire might be treated differently from a cracked windshield
How do rental-car damage waivers, personal auto policies, and credit-card benefits usually handle a tire puncture versus windshield damage? I’m especially curious whether a waiver excludes tires or glass, or covers only certain kinds of damage, and whether the personal policy or card benefit has its own deductible or repair-versus-replacement limits.
The terms seem like they could leave a gap even when one option covers the car generally. What’s the most useful wording to look for before deciding whether to decline the rental company’s waiver? I know the details vary by policy and card.

The repair-versus-replacement limit is worth checking separately for each item. A tire puncture might qualify for repair while a tire that has to be replaced is excluded or capped; glass coverage can have the same distinction between a chip repair and a full windshield replacement. I’d look for wording about tire and glass exclusions, repair-only benefits, replacement limits, and any deductible or dollar cap, rather than assuming general damage coverage includes both outcomes.
