I get where you’re coming from, but I’m not totally convinced stock is always the safer bet. Had a minivan once that was “predictable” until the factory alarm glitched and locked me out with the kids’ snacks inside. Sometimes those so-called simple systems still leave you stranded. I guess it’s a toss-up—modding can backfire, but relying on factory setups isn’t foolproof either. Maybe it’s just about picking your headaches?

That’s a fair point—factory setups aren’t always the “safe” option people make them out to be. I remember getting stuck at a rest stop because my supposedly reliable OEM key fob just died out of nowhere. Ended up waiting for roadside help for hours, and it wasn’t cheap either. Honestly, whether you stick with stock or go for mods, there’s always something that can go sideways. I guess it comes down to what kind of hassle you’re willing to deal with... and how much you want to spend fixing it.

- Factory gear isn’t bulletproof, for sure. Seen plenty of “reliable” OEM stuff fail at the worst times.
- Roadside help costs add up fast—especially if you’re not covered for the weird stuff (like key fobs).
- Curious—did Progressive cover your tow or did you get stuck with the bill? Some policies sneak in limits or exclusions, and folks don’t realize until it’s too late.
- Ever looked into what actually triggers a denied claim? Sometimes it’s just a technicality...

Title: Little-known trick with Progressive’s roadside help

Yeah, I’ve seen people get burned by those fine-print exclusions—especially with things like aftermarket wheels or even just a dead battery. Progressive’s roadside is decent, but you’re right, there are limits most folks don’t notice until they’re stranded. Had a client once who thought their flatbed tow was covered, but it turned out the distance cap was only 15 miles... anything over that and it’s out of pocket. It’s wild how something as simple as “wrong type of breakdown” can trigger a denial. Always worth double-checking what’s actually included before you need it.

That 15-mile cap catches a lot of people off guard. I remember getting stuck with a dead battery in the middle of nowhere and thinking roadside would just handle it, but apparently if you’re not within their “service area,” you’re out of luck. Have you ever noticed how they sometimes won’t cover stuff like winch-outs if your car’s more than a few feet off the road? I had to pay out of pocket once because my car was barely off the shoulder... feels a bit nitpicky, honestly. Makes me wonder how many folks actually read all those details before signing up.
