Now I read every line, even if it means squinting at the tiny print. It’s not paranoia if it saves you from a surprise bill, right?

Honestly, I think you’re spot on. It’s wild how many little “gotchas” are buried in the fine print. I learned the hard way too—my roadside only covered jump starts, not lockouts, which I found out at 2am in a grocery store parking lot. Not fun. Double-checking the details isn’t being paranoid, it’s just being smart.

Totally agree—it’s crazy how much you can miss if you don’t look close. Has anyone managed to actually use Progressive’s roadside without running into weird exclusions? I’m always nervous I’ll call and get hit with, “Sorry, not covered.”

- I get where you’re coming from—insurance fine print is wild sometimes.
- Just signed up with Progressive and yeah, I was nervous too.
- Called them once for a flat tire and it actually went smooth. No weird exclusions, no runaround.
- Still, I double-checked my policy after just to be sure. Turns out, some stuff like winching or certain towing distances aren’t always covered.
- Guess it’s all about knowing exactly what you’re paying for. Doesn’t hurt to ask them straight up before you need it.

One thing I learned the hard way—if you’re considered a high-risk driver (like me, thanks to a couple speeding tickets), they sometimes tack on extra restrictions or higher deductibles for roadside stuff. I had to call in for a tow last winter, and only then did I realize the mileage limit was way less than I expected. Anyone else notice differences in coverage based on your driving record? Just curious if it’s just Progressive or if other companies do that too...

Yeah, that’s a thing across a bunch of companies, not just Progressive. The higher risk you are on paper, the more likely they’ll add stuff like shorter tow distances, higher deductibles, or even cap the number of calls you can make in a year. It’s not super obvious until you actually need the service, which is super frustrating. I’ve seen it with GEICO and Allstate too—sometimes they’ll even flat-out deny roadside add-ons for folks with recent DUIs or a pile of tickets.

One thing to watch out for: sometimes the “standard” roadside package looks the same for everyone, but the fine print changes based on your risk tier. Like, you might get 15 miles free instead of 100, or they’ll only cover certain types of help. I always tell people to double-check their declarations page or call in and ask about specifics, especially if your record’s a little bumpy. It’s a pain, but better than getting stuck with a surprise bill when your car’s already on the fritz.

Funny enough, I had a client who thought they had unlimited tows, but turns out it was just one per six months... Learned that the hard way in a snowstorm.
