Man, your deer story is exactly what I'm afraid of—minus the deer, maybe swap it out for a rogue shopping cart or something. 😂 First-time insurance buyer here, and honestly, your method sounds spot-on. Step one: panic mildly at the thought of paying monthly for something you hope you'll never use. Step two: imagine worst-case scenarios (like midnight roadside deer conferences) to justify said payments. Step three: finally settle somewhere in the middle, where you can sleep at night without visions of bankruptcy dancing in your head. Glad to hear the middle-ground approach worked out for you—I think that's the sweet spot I'm aiming for too. Here's hoping my first mishap isn't as dramatic as yours...but hey, at least now I know deer are legit insurance salesmen in disguise.

Your deer-as-insurance-salesman theory cracked me up...but seriously, have you thought about your deductible yet? Premium vs. coverage is one thing, but the deductible can really bite if you're not careful. Had a client once who went super low on premiums, felt great about it—until a hailstorm hit and she realized her deductible was sky-high. Maybe balance your sweet spot by asking yourself: how much could you comfortably pay out-of-pocket if that rogue shopping cart actually attacks your car? Just something to chew on...

I learned this the hard way too...went super cheap on premiums at first, felt smart until a fender-bender happened. Now I pick a deductible that's doable without stressing—usually around $500. Feels like a decent balance between monthly savings and peace of mind.

Same here, went with $500 after reading some horror stories online. I'd rather pay a bit more monthly than panic if something happens... peace of mind is worth it imo.

I used to go for the lowest deductible possible, thinking I'd sleep better at night. But then I realized I was paying a ton extra each month for something I rarely used. Now I'm at $500 too—seems like the sweet spot. Funny thing is, ever since I switched, I've become even more cautious behind the wheel... guess subconsciously I'm trying to avoid testing that deductible altogether, haha. Anyone else notice their driving habits change based on coverage?
