Would you stick with your insurer for free coffee or movie tickets?

I got a free donut once from my insurer’s “rewards” app, but it didn’t make waiting on hold for 40 minutes any sweeter. Honestly, I’d trade all the snacks in the world for a claim process that doesn’t feel like a scavenger hunt.

Can totally relate. Last year during a cross-country trip, my windshield cracked in Utah—middle of nowhere. The “rewards” points I’d racked up got me a $5 coffee card, but that didn’t help while I was stuck on hold, bouncing between departments. I get the idea behind perks, but efficient claims would go way further. A donut’s nice, but not if you’re already losing your patience.

Perks are nice in theory, but when you’re stranded or dealing with a cracked windshield, a coffee card just feels like a consolation prize. I’ve seen clients get more frustrated by slow claims than by premium hikes. Honestly, I’d rather see insurers invest in faster response times and clearer communication. The “rewards” stuff is fine, but it’s not what keeps people loyal—reliable service does. If I’m stuck on hold for an hour, no amount of free popcorn is going to make up for that.

I get where you’re coming from—nobody wants a “perk” when their car’s out of commission or they’re waiting on hold forever. I’ve seen people light up over a quick claim turnaround way more than a freebie. But I do wonder if some folks actually like those little extras, even if they’re not the main thing. Would you trade all perks for a guarantee of, say, 24-hour claim responses? Or is it more about just feeling like someone’s actually listening when stuff goes wrong?

I get the appeal of fast claims and good service—honestly, that’s what most people care about when things go sideways. But I’ve noticed some customers really do appreciate the perks, especially if they rarely file claims. For them, those little extras feel like a thank-you for sticking around. I wouldn’t say perks are useless, but if I had to choose, I’d still put my money on reliable support over freebies. Still, it’s not always an either/or thing... sometimes the small stuff just makes the experience a bit nicer.
