Ever notice how two adjusters can give totally different answers about the same mod? Drives me nuts.

Yeah, but honestly, I’ve had better luck with smaller local companies when it comes to mods. The big names seem stricter about every little thing, while my local agent actually took the time to look up the tint law with me. Maybe it’s just who you get on the phone that day, but I’d rather deal with someone who knows my car than a random call center.

Honestly, I get nervous even asking about mods because I feel like I’ll get a different answer every time. Local agents do seem more chill, but I worry they might miss something and then I’m stuck if there’s a claim. The big companies are strict, yeah, but at least you know where you stand... most of the time. Still, I’d rather play it safe than risk my rates going up over a misunderstanding.

I get the appeal of the big names, but honestly, I think that “knowing where you stand” is kind of an illusion. I’ve read through some of those policies and there’s so much fine print, it’s easy to miss something even if you’re careful. Local agents might be more relaxed, but they’re also usually more accessible if you need clarification or want to double-check details. I’d rather have someone I can actually talk to than a call center reading from a script. Just my two cents—sometimes “strict” just means less flexibility when things get weird.

I hear you on the fine print—some of those policies read like a choose-your-own-adventure book. But honestly, I’ve seen local agents get tripped up by the same stuff, especially when it comes to claims that are a little outside the norm. The big companies might feel impersonal, but sometimes their processes actually make things smoother when you’re dealing with something messy or complicated. Had a guy last year who swore his local agent “knew him,” but when it came time to actually process his claim, it still came down to what was on paper. Funny how that works.

I get what you’re saying. Had a similar thing happen when I tried switching to a local agent—thought it’d be more “personal,” but when my car got rear-ended, it was all about the paperwork anyway. Honestly, the claims process felt just as confusing as with the big guys. Sometimes I wonder if the “personal touch” is just good marketing.
