Haha, that's roughβbut hey, at least you got a good story out of it. Honestly though, I've had mixed experiences with both Geico and Progressive. Geico's roadside has been hit or miss for me too, but Progressive wasn't exactly a knight in shining armor either. Last winter, I got stuck in a ditch near Albany (don't ask...), and Progressive's roadside took their sweet time as well. I didn't get any family histories, but I did manage to binge half a podcast series waiting for the tow truck.
I guess my point is, roadside assistance can be a gamble regardless of the insurer. Might be worth checking out some local tow services or AAA as a backup. Insurance-wise, both companies have their pros and consβI'd focus more on rates and coverage details rather than roadside alone. Just my two cents.
"roadside assistance can be a gamble regardless of the insurer."
Couldn't agree more with this. Roadside is handy but honestly shouldn't be your deciding factor. I'd lean towards whichever gives you better liability limits and comprehensive coverageβespecially in NY winters...
Fair point about liability and comprehensive, but honestly, roadside assistance has saved me more times than I care to admitβespecially commuting daily into Manhattan. While coverage limits matter, a reliable roadside service can make the difference between being stranded on the Cross Bronx at rush hour or getting home before dinner. Maybe it's just my luck, but I'd weigh in a little more heavily on who has better roadside ratings locally... NY winters are no joke.
