Had a similar experience with Geico a couple years back after someone rear-ended our family SUV. They were super flexible about letting us pick the shop we trusted, no hassle at all. Haven't personally dealt with Progressive, but I've heard mixed things from friends—some say they're great, others say they can be a bit particular. Definitely worth calling around first and getting a feel for it...especially if you're dealing with something special like your Mustang. Good luck, hope it works out smoothly.

- Had Progressive for a while during my cross-country road trips... claims were handled pretty smoothly, but they did push their preferred shops.
- Geico's flexibility might be better if you're picky about your Mustang repairs.
- Either way, definitely call and chat directly—NY can be tricky with insurance.

Went through a similar choice last year in NY. Progressive's been solid for our family SUV, but yeah, they do nudge you toward their shops. Geico might give you more say on Mustang repairs—just double-check their NY-specific fine print... it matters more than you'd think.

Had a similar debate myself a couple years back—ended up with Geico because I wanted more say in repairs after a fender-bender (totally not my fault, I swear...). Progressive seemed decent, but the whole "preferred shop" thing made me nervous. Curious though, anyone had experience with either company when it comes to safety feature repairs? Like sensors or cameras... those things are finicky enough without insurance hassles thrown in.

Is the preferred shop thing really that big of a deal though? Had Progressive last year, and when my backup camera went wonky, their shop handled it fine—no issues since. Maybe it's more about the specific shop than the insurer itself...
