Had a similar headache last year—my ‘72 Chevelle needed some body work after a fender bender, and Geico’s shop list was super limited. Ended up fighting to use my preferred place, which wasn’t fun. Progressive was pricier for me, but at least they didn’t hassle me about the repair shop. I get wanting to save, but with older cars, coverage details matter way more than a few bucks off the premium. Those little policy gaps can turn into big regrets fast...

Couldn’t agree more. We had a minivan in the shop after a parking lot scrape, and Geico’s “preferred” shop did a pretty mediocre job. My wife still points out the paint mismatch. Saving $10 a month wasn’t worth the hassle for us.

That paint mismatch would drive me nuts too. Out of curiosity, did you try pushing back with Geico about the quality, or was it just not worth the headache? I’ve seen some folks get better results after escalating, but it’s hit or miss. Makes me wonder—has anyone had a noticeably better claims experience with Progressive in NY? Sometimes it feels like the shop matters more than the insurer, but maybe that’s just my luck...
