how accident forgiveness works in NM and why it's saved me cash

From what I've seen in NM, accident forgiveness isn't specifically mandated statewide - it's mostly up to individual insurers. Some companies really hype it as a selling point, while others treat it like a hidden perk you only discover after reading deep into the policy details. Honestly, it's always smart to directly ask your agent about it... ads gloss over a lot, and fine print can be intentionally vague. Learned that one the hard way myself after a minor scrape years ago - luckily my insurer was forgiving, but lesson definitely learned.

Totally agree with this. When I was shopping around, accident forgiveness sounded awesome in commercials, but my agent explained it kicks in only after you've been claim-free for a certain time. Glad I asked before signing anything...

Yeah, commercials always make it sound like accident forgiveness is some magical fix. When I first signed up, I thought I was covered immediately. Then I had a minor fender-bender on a road trip through Arizona and found out the hard way about the waiting period. Luckily, my agent was cool about explaining everything clearly afterward... definitely learned to double-check the details since then.

Yeah, commercials definitely oversimplify things. I had accident forgiveness added a few years back, and my agent was upfront about the waiting period - think it was around 6 months or something? Anyway, glad I asked because not even two months later someone rear-ended me at a stoplight. Thankfully, it wasn't my fault, but it got me thinking how easily I could've been in your shoes. Always worth reading the fine print or just straight-up asking your agent to clarify stuff.

Definitely agree with this. I remember when I first got my '69 Mustang insured, I assumed "classic car coverage" automatically meant full coverage for any accident. Turns out, there were mileage limits and specific storage requirements...stuff my agent only mentioned after I asked directly. Makes me wonder, how many folks out there think they're covered for something they're really not? Always pays to double-check, especially on older cars.
