I’d rather deal with a mountain of paperwork and get paid fast than sit around listening to someone talk about “community values” while my property’s still a mess.
That hits home. I remember when my car got sideswiped during one of those surprise hail storms—Shelter was my insurer at the time. They kept telling me how much they “cared,” but it took almost three weeks before anyone even looked at the damage. Meanwhile, my neighbor with State Farm had his claim wrapped up in days. I get the whole “local touch” thing, but when you’re staring at a busted-up car (or fence), speed matters more than warm fuzzies.
Honestly, I get wanting things done fast, but has anyone ever actually had a “quick” insurance claim? I swear, even with State Farm, my buddy waited forever for a roof inspection. Maybe it’s just the nature of insurance... or Missouri weather.

- Noticed the same with State Farm, but Shelter wasn’t any faster for me.
- Claims just seem to crawl, no matter the company or the adjuster.
- Had an old Mustang get hail damage—took weeks just for the initial call-back.
- Missouri weather definitely complicates things, but I wonder if it’s just overloaded adjusters too.
- I do think Shelter was a bit more responsive over email, at least compared to State Farm’s phone tag.
- Fast claims? Rare as a rust-free ‘70s Chevy around here...

That line’s too real. Had a roof claim with Shelter last spring after one of those Midwest hailstorms—took nearly a month before anything got rolling. State Farm wasn’t much better when my neighbor’s tree came down on my old camper a few years back. I guess “quick” just isn’t in the vocabulary for insurance folks around here. At this point, I mostly pick based on which one hikes my rates less every year.
