my car met a deer...and my wallet's crying

So yesterday evening, I'm cruising down this backroad near Tupelo, minding my own business, windows down, music up—you know the vibe. Outta nowhere, BAM, a deer decides it's the perfect time to cross the road. I slammed the brakes, but too late. Deer bolts off (hope it's okay?), but my front bumper and hood...well, they're not doing so hot.

Now I'm sitting here thinking about insurance and realizing I never really paid attention to what exactly my policy covers. Pretty sure I have collision, but comprehensive? Honestly, I don't even know the difference half the time. I just remember nodding along when the agent explained it all.

Anyway, got me thinking—what if this was something crazier, like a tree branch falling or hailstorm damage? Would collision cover that stuff or is it comprehensive? Insurance jargon makes my head spin sometimes.

Anyone else got stories of surprise run-ins with wildlife or random objects attacking your car? Or maybe you actually understand insurance better than me and can shed some light on this mess...

Haha, been there myself. Quick breakdown from my experience:

- Collision covers you hitting stuff (cars, poles...deer).
- Comprehensive is basically everything else—storms, falling branches, vandalism, etc.

Had a similar run-in with a raccoon once, surprisingly expensive fix for such a small critter. Out of curiosity though, anyone ever deal with hitting something more unusual? Like...a turkey or something?

True, but it's not always that straightforward. Had a client once whose parked car got rammed by a deer—no joke. Ended up under comprehensive since the deer technically hit him. Insurance logic can be weird sometimes...

Yeah, insurance can get pretty quirky with deer incidents. Usually, collision is when you're moving and hit something, comprehensive covers when something hits you—like animals jumping into your parked car. Weird distinction, but that's how they roll...

Insurance definitions always seem a bit arbitrary to me. Had a similar deer incident last year—my insurer classified it under comprehensive, not collision, even though I was clearly driving. Still puzzles me how they decide these things...
