Car insurance in Mississippi—does location or driving record matter more?

Had a similar issue when I moved closer to Jackson. Thought my clean record would help, but nope—agent said it was all about zip codes. Makes me wonder...is there any city in MS that doesn't bump your rates?

Went through something similar myself when I moved from Gulfport up toward Hattiesburg. Thought I'd catch a break with my spotless record, but nope... rates still jumped. From what I've seen, smaller towns or rural areas tend to be better—less traffic, fewer accidents, lower crime stats. Maybe check out some suburbs or smaller communities outside the bigger cities? Might not be perfect, but could save you a few bucks at least.

Not always true in my experience...
- Moved from Jackson to a tiny town near Meridian expecting lower premiums—nope, barely budged.
- Insurers seem to lump certain rural areas together with nearby cities anyway.
- Honestly think driving record still matters more overall. Had one speeding ticket drop off and saw a bigger rate drop than changing ZIP codes ever got me.
- Might depend on the insurer too, but location alone isn't always the magic fix people think it is.

Had a similar experience myself. When I moved from Gulfport out to a rural spot near Lucedale, I figured my insurance would drop significantly. Nope...barely noticed the difference. Turns out insurers factor in regional claims history more than just population size. But when my at-fault accident finally aged off my record, that's when I saw a real drop. Location matters some, sure, but your driving history seems to carry way more weight overall.

Turns out my driving record—couple speeding tickets and one fender bender—was the real culprit. Once those finally dropped off, that's when things improved noticeably. Location definitely plays a role, but insurers seem way more focused on how risky you look behind the wheel. Hang in there...once your record clears up, you'll likely see some relief.
