Had a similar situation a couple years back—my cousin was always borrowing my car for “quick errands.” I figured it was no big deal, until I got a letter from my insurer asking about frequent drivers. Turns out, they flagged the mileage and wanted to know who else was behind the wheel. That was a wake-up call. I get wanting to keep things chill, but honestly, the paperwork’s less of a hassle than a denied claim. Learned that one the hard way...

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. Insurance companies don’t mess around when it comes to “frequent drivers.” I had a buddy who kept borrowing my car for work runs, and I thought, sure, it’s just a favor. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized how sketchy it gets if something goes wrong—like, would they even cover an accident if he crashed? Or would they just say nope, claim denied?

Honestly, the whole “permissive use” thing sounds good until you read the fine print. They’re looking for any reason to not pay out. If someone’s using your car more than just once in a blue moon, isn’t it basically their car at that point? Why risk your own policy over a technicality? Feels like adding them is just less headache in the long run, even if it means a few extra bucks on the premium. Anyone else think insurance is basically just legalized paranoia at this point...?
