"Curious about the dryer sheets though...do you just tuck them randomly or is there a specific spot that's best?"
I've had good luck with dryer sheets myselfβdefinitely worth a try. I usually tuck them around wiring harnesses, near the battery, and any cozy-looking spots mice might find inviting. Heard peppermint oil works too, but honestly, dryer sheets are easier and smell better. Haven't had any critter issues since I started doing this a couple years ago, so I'd say it's pretty effective.
Dryer sheets have worked pretty well for me too, but I tend to be a bit more strategic about placement. I usually focus on areas near the air intake vents and cabin filter, since mice seem to love nesting around there. Wiring harnesses are definitely a good call, thoughβI had a friend who ended up with a hefty repair bill after rodents chewed through some wires in his car. Peppermint oil sounds interesting, but I've heard mixed reviews about its effectiveness, and honestly, dryer sheets are just simpler and cheaper.
One thing I've wondered about is how often you guys replace the sheets? I usually swap mine out every month or two, but maybe that's overkill. Curious what others are doing...
"I usually swap mine out every month or two, but maybe that's overkill."
I used to change mine monthly too, but honestly, I've gotten lazy...now it's more like every 3-4 months. Still no mice yet, knock on wood. Guess they're not picky about freshness!

Honestly, you're probably fine at 3-4 months, but I'd still keep an eye on it. Here's what I do: quick visual check monthly (takes literally 5 seconds), then swap out fully every 6 months or soβusually spring and fall. Mice might not care about freshness, but your engine airflow sure does...and trust me, rodents nesting in your air filter is a headache you don't want.
"Guess they're not picky about freshness!"
Haha, true...but honestly, I'd be more worried about airflow than mice at that point. I used to stretch mine out too, thinking it was no big dealβuntil I noticed my gas mileage dipping noticeably. Turns out a clogged filter can really mess with efficiency. You're probably fine at 3-4 months, but a quick peek every now and then wouldn't hurt. Better safe than sorry, right?
