Exactly this. I've been using one of those apps for a couple months now, and here's what I've noticed:

- If you're mostly driving to class or running errands in heavy traffic, forget about it. Too many sudden stops and starts, and suddenly your discount drops faster than my GPA after finals week...
- But if you're strategic—like weekend drives or late-night snack runs when the streets are empty—it really pays off.
- Also, quick tip: watch out for potholes or speed bumps. The app once dinged me for "hard braking" when I was just trying to save my suspension from a crater-sized pothole (thanks, city maintenance 🙄).

Overall they're not perfect, but if you know your driving habits well enough and can game the system just a bit, it's worth it. Saving money as a student driver is always a win in my book.

Haha, I feel this. Tried one of those apps once and it was a disaster... apparently my "normal" braking style is considered an emergency maneuver. Guess I'll stick to military discounts instead—less judgmental about my driving habits.

Haha, those apps are way too sensitive sometimes... I swear mine dinged me for "hard acceleration" just merging onto the freeway. Curious though, anyone actually seen their rates drop significantly from using them? Seems kinda gimmicky to me.

I've wondered about this too... but honestly, from what I've seen, it might depend heavily on your driving style and the insurer. A friend of mine is pretty cautious behind the wheel, and after about six months, he did see a noticeable dip in his premium. Not huge, but enough to make it worth his while. Maybe the gimmicky feel comes from the overly sensitive alerts rather than the actual savings potential? Have you checked if your app lets you dispute or clarify those false positives?

- Had a similar experience myself—tried one of those tracking apps for about 4 months.
- Honestly, the alerts drove me nuts... kept flagging me for "hard braking" when I was just stopping normally at lights.
- But surprisingly, after a few months, my premium did drop slightly. Not life-changing savings, but noticeable enough to stick with it.
- Never thought about disputing false positives though—might check if that's an option on mine too.
