Just noticed my insurance company gave me a pretty decent discount after they found out about my military background. Wasn't expecting it, honestly... anyone else had something similar happen to them?
That's cool they gave you a discount, but honestly, my experience was a bit different. A couple years back, I mentioned my military service to my insurer thinking it'd help lower my rates. Instead, they just thanked me for my service and... that was it. No discount, no special offersβjust a polite acknowledgment.
I ended up shopping around and found another company that offered veteran discounts, but their base rates were higher to begin with. After crunching the numbers, the so-called "discount" didn't really save me anything compared to what I already had. So yeah, sometimes these discounts aren't quite as generous as they sound at first glance.
Glad yours worked out though. Maybe it depends on the state or the company? Insurance is weirdly inconsistent like that.
Had a similar thing happen to me. Mentioned my military background hoping it'd shave a bit off my premium, but nopeβjust a polite nod and zero savings. Funny enough, when I got hit with a speeding ticket later, my rates shot up anyway. Discounts or not, insurance companies always find a way to get their money...
