Saving cash just for driving less? Didn’t think it was real
Still, city driving’s always gonna mess with the “smoothness” score... can’t really win there.
Honestly, that’s my biggest gripe. I’m still learning and half the time I’m just reacting to people cutting in or slamming on their brakes. The tracker dings me for stuff I can’t control - like what am I supposed to do, just let someone hit me? I get the point of it, but it feels a bit unfair in stop-and-go traffic. Maybe if they gave a bigger discount it’d be worth stressing over, but right now it’s just another thing to worry about.
Yeah, I get that. The tracker’s always pinging me for “hard braking” but what else can you do when someone cuts you off? I’ve had a few close calls where it was either brake hard or end up in someone’s bumper. Do you think these apps actually factor in city traffic, or is it just one-size-fits-all?
Yeah, I’ve wondered about that too. It feels like these trackers just assume everyone’s driving in perfect conditions, which is pretty unrealistic if you’re anywhere near city traffic. I mean, what are you supposed to do - let someone sideswipe you just so your score doesn’t take a hit? Half the time, I feel like I’m getting dinged for avoiding an accident. Maybe they figure most people aren’t slamming on the brakes unless they have to, but it still seems a bit harsh. Anyone else notice it gets worse during rush hour?
I get what you’re saying, but I’ve actually had the opposite experience a couple times. My tracker seems to care more about speed than braking, at least in my case. I drive a big sedan and sometimes have to hit the brakes harder than I’d like, but it hasn’t tanked my score as much as I expected. Maybe it depends on the brand or how sensitive the thing is? Still, it’s definitely not built for city traffic - rush hour is just a mess and there’s only so much you can do.

Yeah, I think you’re right - it’s probably different for each tracker. Mine seems to ding me more for quick stops than speeding, which is weird. City driving just feels impossible to “win” with these things...
