Would a named-driver exclusion apply in an emergency?

In Louisiana, how does a named-driver exclusion interact with occasional permissive use? If a household member is excluded to reduce the premium, could that exclusion still bar coverage if they unexpectedly had to drive the insured car in an emergency? I wouldn’t assume that permission to borrow the car overrides an exclusion, but I’m unclear how the policy wording handles it.

Before choosing an exclusion, I’d want the insurer to explain exactly who and what it applies to, and what disclosures are required in Louisiana. Is there specific language or a written explanation members should ask for?

The actual named-driver exclusion endorsement is the key document to request. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing whether it excludes liability coverage when that person drives the insured car, including during an emergency, and whether it affects any other coverage. That gives you the policy language and the insurer’s explanation of its scope, rather than relying on a general statement about permissive use.
