Is rejecting UM coverage worth the savings for a daily commuter in Louisiana?

I’m reviewing my Louisiana auto policy after a commuting accident and trying to understand whether reducing or rejecting uninsured/underinsured-motorist coverage is a false economy.

My policy currently shows bodily-injury liability limits of 15/30, which I understand are Louisiana’s minimum limits: $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident. I’m considering whether to keep UM/UIM at similar limits, select higher limits, or sign a rejection or lower-limit selection. The premium difference matters, but I’m concerned about being hit by someone with no insurance or only the minimum coverage.

A few details I’m unsure about:

- If I own multiple vehicles, does Louisiana allow UM coverage to stack across them, or does that depend on the policy wording and selection form?
- Does choosing lower UM/UIM coverage affect only bodily injury, or could it also change protection for other losses?
- Since my daily commute involves heavy traffic and frequent exposure to drivers who may be uninsured, is higher UM/UIM generally more valuable than it would be for someone who rarely drives?
- What should I ask the insurer before signing a rejection or limitation, especially about stacking, exclusions, and how it would apply if the other driver is underinsured?
