I hear you on the “prove it” headache—insurance claims can feel like you’re on trial for just being unlucky. I’ve seen people get tripped up by missing paperwork or a single blurry photo, so keeping pics is a solid move. One client of mine had a deer run into their car (not the other way around, oddly enough), and the only thing that saved their claim from dragging out was a quick set of phone pics and a timestamped text to me right after it happened.

About Kentucky Farm Bureau, I’ve noticed they’re pretty responsive for smaller stuff—like windshield chips or minor fender benders. But when it comes to bigger claims, you’re right, things can slow down. They’re not unique in that, though. Even the big national companies will drag their feet if there’s any gray area.

If you’re just shopping around, I’d say get quotes from at least three places, including Farm Bureau. Sometimes the local agent makes all the difference—some are old-school, but others are surprisingly on top of tech and communication. It’s less about the brand and more about who’s actually handling your file when things go sideways.

That deer story hits close to home—my cousin had a similar run-in and the paperwork was a nightmare. I’m with you on keeping photo evidence; I even keep a little “accident kit” in the glove box now (not paranoid, just... prepared). When I switched from Farm Bureau to State Farm last year, I noticed the same thing: local agents really do make or break the experience. I’d add, don’t just compare prices—ask around about how claims actually get handled. Sometimes the cheapest policy costs more in headaches later.

Honestly, I get the whole “local agent” thing, but I’ve had the opposite experience. My last agent was super friendly until I actually needed help, then it was just endless hold music and getting bounced around. Ended up switching to GEICO online—no small talk, just straight answers and fast claims. Maybe it’s not as personal, but at least I know what I’m getting. Sometimes the big companies aren’t as bad as people say... just depends what you want, I guess.

I hear you—I've had similar luck with the bigger companies too. Used to think local was always better, but after a cross-state breakdown, my “personal” agent was MIA. Switched to Progressive online and haven’t looked back. Fast claims actually matter when you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere...

I get where you’re coming from—there’s a lot to be said for quick claims service, especially when you’re stuck on the side of the road. I used to swear by local agents too, but after a classic Mustang mishap in rural Kentucky, I realized speed and reliability trumped the “personal touch.” Sometimes the big names really do deliver when it counts.
