I guess it comes down to what matters more—personal service or convenience.

Honestly, that’s the struggle. I’ve got three kids and a minivan that’s seen more drive-thrus than actual highways, so for me, convenience usually wins. Here’s how I see it:

- Local agents: Great if you want to chat about your policy over coffee... but sometimes you’re just hoping they’ll answer the phone before your toddler starts coloring on the walls.
- Big companies: Love the apps. I can file a claim while hiding in the bathroom (don’t judge). But yeah, you’re basically customer #1,234,567.

Had a local guy once who was super friendly, but when my car got rear-ended by a runaway shopping cart (true story), he was on vacation and I ended up talking to his cousin who knew less about insurance than my dog.

For Kentucky, I’d say if you’ve got something special like a classic car, maybe hunt down an agent who actually geeks out over cars. For us “family hauler” types? Give me an app and a 24/7 hotline any day.

I get the convenience angle, but I’ve had the opposite luck. When my car got sideswiped in a Kroger lot, the big-name company’s app was slick—until I needed an actual person. Took three days and a dozen calls to get someone who could actually help. Meanwhile, my neighbor swears by her local agent who even dropped off paperwork at her house once. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw, but sometimes that personal touch saves you a headache, even if it’s not as fast as tapping a screen.

Had a similar runaround with one of those “big guys”—felt like yelling into the void. Ended up switching to a smaller outfit in town. They’re not flashy, but when my kid backed into a mailbox, I had a real person on the line in minutes. Sometimes old-school just works better, even if it’s not the cheapest.

Honestly, I get what you mean. I’ve stuck with a local place for years—maybe I’m paying a bit more, but at least I know who’s picking up when I call. The big names always seem to have you on hold forever, and I don’t have time for that. For me, peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks.

That’s a big one for me too, but I’ll admit I’ve had mixed luck with local spots. One time, my agent retired and the new guy just wasn’t as responsive. Here’s what’s worked for me: I always check reviews, ask neighbors, and actually call the office before switching. If they pick up fast and answer questions without rushing, that’s a good sign. Sometimes the “big names” have local agents too—worth checking if you want a blend of both worlds.
