I get what you’re saying about sticking it out, but man, sometimes I feel like these “safe driver” discounts are just a carrot on a stick. I’ve had the same clean record for years, and my rates still sneak up every renewal. Those apps? One hard brake because a squirrel darts out and suddenly I’m “risky.” Maybe persistence pays off, but I’m starting to think my insurance company just likes playing hard to get...

Honestly, I think the whole “safe driver” discount thing is a bit of a joke these days. I get what you’re saying about the apps—one weird stop and suddenly you’re a menace? It’s like they want us to drive like robots, not real people who have to deal with squirrels, potholes, and whatever else Kansas throws at us. But here’s the thing: I actually tried switching companies after my last renewal went up for no reason. Guess what? The new company wanted even more, and they had their own version of that tracking app nonsense.

I’m not convinced persistence with one company pays off anymore. Loyalty used to mean something, but now it just feels like they count on us being too tired to shop around. I’ve started looking at smaller, local insurers instead of the big names. They actually picked up the phone, listened when I explained my driving record, and didn’t try to sell me on some “telematics” gadget. My rate’s still not what it was ten years ago, but at least it stopped climbing every six months.

And about those apps—if you’re a careful driver, why should you have to prove it with a phone in your car? Feels backwards. I’d rather pay a few bucks more than let some algorithm decide if I’m “risky” because I hit the brakes for a dog or whatever.

Maybe we’re just at that age where the system’s stacked against us, but I’m not giving in to the idea that there’s nothing we can do. If your company keeps playing hard to get, maybe it’s time to walk away—even if it’s just out of principle.

Totally get what you mean about those apps—feels like they’re just waiting for you to sneeze wrong and jack up your rates. I stuck with my company for years thinking it’d pay off, but nope, same story. Tried a local place too and at least they treated me like a person, not a number on a spreadsheet. Still miss the days when being a good driver actually meant something... but hey, at least we’re not letting them push us around without a fight.

It’s wild how loyalty barely counts for anything with the big insurers these days. I’ve noticed the same—years of clean driving and they still find a way to hike things up. Have you looked into any of those mutual insurance companies? Sometimes they’re a bit more old-school and actually care about your record. Not saying it’s a magic fix, but it’s something. Makes you wonder if all that “safe driver” talk is just marketing now...

Had a similar experience last year when my policy came up for renewal. I’ve been with the same company for over a decade, never had a claim, and still got hit with a rate increase—no explanation that made sense. I drive a higher-end sedan, so maybe that’s part of it, but you’d think loyalty would count for something. Tried getting quotes from a couple mutuals like you mentioned... honestly, the rates weren’t much better, but at least they actually talked to me like a person instead of reading off a script. Maybe it’s just the way things are now? Still feels off.
