I get wanting to save—those premiums can really sting, especially once you hit a certain age bracket. But I gotta say, I’ve had my fair share of trouble with smaller insurers when things actually went sideways. Had a hail claim a couple years back and the “budget” company I was with tried every trick in the book to avoid paying out. Ended up spending way more time on the phone than I ever did with Allstate or State Farm, and honestly, the stress wasn’t worth the few bucks I saved up front.
I know the big guys aren’t perfect (waiting a month for a fender bender is ridiculous), but at least when push comes to shove, they usually have deeper pockets and less incentive to dodge claims. Sometimes I wonder if paying extra is just buying peace of mind... Not saying there’s a right answer here, but just sharing what’s kept me sticking with the bigger names even if it means tightening the belt elsewhere.
