Would you risk a higher deductible to lower your insurance bill?
Would you risk a higher deductible to lower your insurance bill?
I get where you’re coming from, but man, with my old Mustang, I swear every “minor” repair ends up being a scavenger hunt for rare parts and mechanics who don’t look terrified. Ever tried finding a carburetor for a ‘67? Sometimes I think my deductible should come with a side of aspirin. Do you ever worry about one big repair wiping out all those savings, or is that just me being paranoid?
Sometimes I think my deductible should come with a side of aspirin.
Haha, I feel that. I just got my first car (nothing as cool as a ‘67 Mustang, but hey), and picking the deductible was honestly stressful. I kept thinking, “What if something big happens right after I save all this money on premiums?” But then again, my budget’s tight, so the lower monthly cost won out. Still, every weird noise makes me nervous... Maybe it’s not just you being paranoid.
I totally get that anxiety - every time my car makes a new sound, I start calculating if it’s “deductible-worthy” or just my imagination. I’ve seen folks save a ton with higher deductibles, but then one fender bender wipes out those savings in a snap. It’s such a gamble, especially when you’re just starting out and every dollar counts. Sometimes I wonder if peace of mind is worth the extra monthly cost...
I totally relate - when I first switched to a higher deductible, I kept second-guessing every little rattle. What helped me was actually stashing the difference in a savings account, just in case. It’s not foolproof, but it gave me some peace of mind.
Honestly, I get the logic behind stashing the savings, but for me, it’s a bit of a gamble - especially with older cars. One random part failure and you’re dipping into that fund fast. I’d rather pay a little more each month and not sweat every weird noise under the hood. Maybe I’m just risk-averse after too many surprise repairs...
