Good points on the dashcam—I've been considering upgrading mine too. Curious though, does anyone know if insurers in Illinois actually give you a break for having clear dashcam footage, or is it mostly just helpful when things get messy?

Hadn't thought of that angle before...
From what I've seen, Illinois insurers don't typically give discounts just for having dashcams, but footage can definitely speed up claims if there's a dispute.

Makes sense to me...but does anyone know if certain insurers here are more dashcam-friendly than others?
I've wondered about this too, especially since I do a lot of road trips and dashcams seem like a no-brainer for peace of mind. I mean, even if insurers don't officially give discounts, wouldn't they still look favorably on drivers who consistently provide clear footage in disputes?

Makes me curious—has anyone here actually had their dashcam footage directly affect how quickly a claim was settled or how much they ended up paying?

My coworker had dashcam footage that clearly showed the other driver running a red light. He said it sped things up significantly with his insurer. Makes me wonder though, does footage ever backfire if it shows partial fault...?
Dashcams can definitely be a double-edged sword... step one: proudly hand over footage proving the other guy ran a red. Step two: cringe when the adjuster notices you were casually speeding through the intersection yourself. Ask me how I know, lol.
