how bad would insurance spike after a DUI in Idaho?

Yeah, switching insurers might soften the blow a bit, but realistically, a DUI's gonna haunt your premiums for quite a while. Idaho's pretty strict on this stuffβ€”I've seen cases where rates almost doubled overnight. One thing that could help is looking into defensive driving courses or programs insurers recognize to lower risk. Won't erase the hike completely, but it might ease the pain a little...

Switching insurers might not always soften the blow as much as you'd think. In Idaho, most providers access similar risk databases, meaning your DUI record follows you closely. Defensive driving courses can help, sure, but their impact tends to be modest at best. I've handled claims where policyholders invested time and money into these courses only to see minimal premium reductions. Honestly, patience and maintaining a clean record moving forward will probably do more for your rates in the long run than hopping between insurers or quick-fix programs.

Yeah, I've heard similar things from buddies who've tried those courses. But does anyone know if classic car insurance providers handle DUIs differently, or is it pretty much the same deal across the board?

Classic car insurers can actually be a bit stricter sometimes, since they're usually dealing with collector vehicles or limited-use policies. A DUI might make them rethink your risk profile even more than regular insurers would. But I've also heard of cases where they're willing to work something out if you've had a clean history otherwise...so it's not always black and white. Might be worth checking directly with specialty providers to get a clearer picture.

Yeah, this makes sense. Classic car insurers can be picky, but they're also dealing with a smaller pool of drivers who usually care a lot about their cars. I'd guess they'd at least hear you out if your record was spotless before the DUI. Still, probably best not to get your hopes too highβ€”insurance companies aren't exactly known for generosity after something like that. Worth a shot though.
