You're definitely right about the insurers being strict on DUIs. Another thing worth mentioning is that some Idaho insurers offer what's called an SR-22 filing after a DUI, which is basically proof of financial responsibility. Unfortunately, it usually adds another layer of cost onto your premium...so yeah, it's tough all around.

Yeah, that's rough. A buddy of mine had to deal with the SR-22 thing a couple years back, and he said it was a real headache. Do you know if that filing stays on your record as long as the DUI itself does, or is it shorter?
Had a similar situation myselfβSR-22 lasted about three years, but the DUI stayed on my record longer. Definitely not fun dealing with that paperwork and extra cost every renewal...
Mine jumped quite a bit after my ticket, and I wasn't even dealing with a DUI. Can't imagine how steep it gets with one of those on your record... Have you tried shopping around different insurers? Sometimes there's a big difference.

Shopping around is definitely worth a shot, but honestly, with something as serious as a DUI, the spike's gonna be pretty harsh no matter where you go. Had a buddy in Boise who got one, and even after switching insurers, his rates stayed high for years...
