What should the shop wait for before starting vandalism repairs?

When vandalism damage is being repaired, how do people keep the work moving without getting ahead of the insurer’s inspection or approval? I’d want photos and a clear record of the damage before repairs start, but I’m unsure whether temporary measures to keep things from getting worse are treated differently from permanent repairs.

And if the shop finds additional damage after taking parts off, should it pause that work and document the new findings for the adjuster before continuing?

If disassembly turns up damage that changes the approved scope or estimate, the shop should document it and get the adjuster’s approval for the added work before proceeding. If it doesn’t change either, the insurer’s process may allow repairs to continue under the existing authorization. Does the shop know how that insurer handles those smaller findings?
