Always double-check the paperwork before repairs start... learned that one the hard way myself.
- Been there—my “luxury” ride once came back with a bumper that looked like it belonged on a go-kart.
- OEM parts or bust for me now, even if I have to arm-wrestle the adjuster.
- Anyone ever had insurance flat-out refuse OEM even when you asked? Or is it just my luck?
Yeah, insurance can be a real pain about OEM parts. I asked for them after my fender bender last year and the adjuster just kept pushing aftermarket like it was no big deal. Ended up having to call my agent and basically argue my case—felt like I was on trial or something. In the end, they caved, but only because my car’s still under warranty and the manual specifically says OEM for safety stuff.
I totally get the frustration with paperwork too. The first time I had to deal with repairs, I didn’t look close enough and they almost put on a totally different color mirror. Now I’m paranoid and triple-check everything before signing.
Not sure if it’s just luck or what, but seems like some companies are way stingier than others about OEM. Maybe depends on your policy? Either way, definitely worth fighting for if you care about how your car looks (and drives).
