OEM parts are a bit of a sore spot for me. Had a ‘72 Chevelle once—tried to save a few bucks with aftermarket trim, and the fit was just... off. Drove me nuts every time I looked at it. But for daily drivers, I get it, especially if you’re not fussed about originality. Ever run into insurance pushing you toward aftermarket even when you wanted OEM? That’s happened to me and it’s always a hassle.

Insurance companies love to push aftermarket parts, don’t they? Drives me up the wall, especially when you know the OEM stuff just fits and lasts better. I get why they do it, but it’s frustrating when you care about your car. I’ve had to push back a few times—sometimes you just have to stand your ground and insist on OEM, even if it means a few extra phone calls. Hang in there, it’s worth it for peace of mind.

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s wild how quick they are to suggest the cheaper parts, even when you know it’s just not the same. I’ve had to haggle with my insurer over this a couple times—sometimes they’ll cave if you’re persistent, but it does take effort. Honestly, I usually weigh the cost difference, but for certain things, OEM is just non-negotiable. It’s a hassle, but you’re right, peace of mind is worth a few extra calls.

I hear you on the OEM parts—especially with higher-end cars, it’s just not worth the risk going aftermarket. I’ve had adjusters try to push generic glass on my S-Class after a break-in, and it took a lot of back-and-forth before they agreed to cover the original. It’s frustrating, but I’d rather spend the extra time than deal with weird fitment issues or rattles down the line. Sometimes you really do have to stand your ground, even if it feels like a hassle.

Fair point, but honestly, I’ve had decent luck with aftermarket stuff—at least for glass. My old E-Class had a Safelite windshield for years and no weird noises or leaks. Maybe I just got lucky, but sometimes OEM feels like paying extra for the logo...
