bumped someone's car lightly, no visible damage—should I report?

Definitely agree with this. Even if it looks fine on the surface, bumpers these days are designed to absorb impacts by flexing inward, which can hide damage underneath. I'd suggest a quick step-by-step check just to be safe:

1. First, visually inspect the bumper closely—look for subtle misalignments or gaps that weren't there before.
2. Next, gently press and pull at different points along the bumper to feel for any unusual movement or looseness.
3. If possible, peek underneath with a flashlight to check brackets, clips, or mounting points for cracks or bends.
4. Lastly, test your lights and sensors (if your car has them) to make sure everything still functions properly.

Had a friend who thought his minor tap was nothing until his parking sensors started randomly beeping at empty spaces... turned out a sensor bracket had cracked. Better safe than sorry, especially if you're considering whether or not to report it.

Fair point, but honestly, I'd say it depends on the situation. Modern bumpers are pretty forgiving, and I've seen plenty of cases where a tiny bump really was just that—tiny. If you've done a thorough check like described and everything seems solid, reporting might just complicate things unnecessarily. Still, if you're unsure or uneasy about it... probably better to err on the side of caution.

Honestly, from experience, even the smallest bumps can sometimes surprise you later on. A quick visual check is great, but here's a simple way to be extra sure:

First, give the bumper a gentle push—does it feel secure or does anything wiggle slightly? Next, test any sensors or cameras (if your car has them) by parking near a wall or another object to see if they're still working normally. If everything checks out fine, you're probably good. But if you notice anything weird—like sensors randomly beeping at invisible ghosts (been there!)—it might be worth getting it checked out professionally.

A friend of mine had a similar thing happen; he thought it was no big deal until his backup camera started giving him some seriously spooky false alarms... turned out a sensor got knocked loose. Not the end of the world, but definitely something you'd wanna know about sooner rather than later.

Honestly, if there's no visible damage and everything feels solid, I wouldn't stress too much about reporting it. But like you said:

"even the smallest bumps can sometimes surprise you later on."

Had a similar thing happen years ago—thought it was nothing until my fog lights randomly flickered weeks later. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Had something similar happen with my Audi a while back—barely tapped a bumper, zero visible marks. Thought nothing of it until sensors started acting funky weeks later. You're probably fine, but keeping an eye out doesn't hurt...cars can be weird like that.
