bumped someone's car lightly, no visible damage—should I report?

That's a fair point about the sensors being delicate. I get why they're useful, but honestly, as someone who mostly drives older cars, it feels like modern vehicles are becoming overly reliant on tech that's just too fragile for everyday bumps and scrapes. My '72 Mustang doesn't have any of these fancy sensors, and while parallel parking downtown can be a bit nerve-wracking, at least I know a minor tap won't cost me hundreds in repairs.

I wonder if manufacturers could design these systems to be more modular or easier to recalibrate without needing expensive dealership visits every time something minor happens. Seems like that would save everyone a lot of headaches (and money). Has anyone here had experience with aftermarket sensors or cameras? Curious if they're any sturdier or easier to deal with compared to factory-installed ones...

I bumped a newer SUV once—barely touched it, no visible damage—but the owner insisted on checking sensors. Ended up costing me way more than expected. Aftermarket ones on my car seem tougher though, never had issues recalibrating after minor scrapes...

Honestly, aftermarket sensors aren't always tougher—just less sensitive sometimes. OEM sensors are calibrated to tighter specs, so even a minor bump can throw them off. Had a similar issue once; visually nothing wrong, but the lane-assist kept acting weird afterward. Ended up needing recalibration anyway. Annoying, yeah, but I'd rather have sensitive sensors than ones that might miss something important...

Had a similar bump once, no visible damage either. Thought I was good until my parking sensors started randomly beeping at nothing. Turns out even tiny impacts can mess with calibration. If you're worried about liability or insurance hassle, maybe just leave a note or something? Better safe than sorry, especially if their car has fancy tech...

Yeah, learned this the hard way myself. I lightly tapped someone's bumper once—zero visible damage, paint looked perfect. Thought nothing of it until my adaptive cruise control started acting weird on the highway, randomly braking for no reason... Dealership said even minor bumps can throw off sensor alignment, especially on newer luxury models. Ended up costing a bit to recalibrate everything. Leaving a note might save you (and them) some headaches down the road.
