Why did my GEICO premium jump so much this year?

I just got my renewal notice from GEICO and my rate went up by like $40 a month. I haven’t had any tickets or claims, and my car is the same old beater. I called them and they gave me some spiel about “market conditions” and inflation, but it still feels kinda random. Has anyone else seen a big increase lately, or is it just me getting unlucky?

Yeah, I’ve seen my rates jump too, and honestly, it’s not just you. I’ve had a couple tickets in the past, so I expect to get dinged, but lately even my “clean” friends are complaining. Insurance companies love to blame “market conditions” but it feels like they just hike rates because they can. I’d shop around if I were you—sometimes switching is the only way to keep ‘em honest.

- Same here, my premium jumped even though I haven’t had any claims or tickets.
- Noticed that even adding a new car (nothing fancy) bumped it up more than I expected.
- Heard from a neighbor their rate went up after moving just a few blocks—makes me wonder how much is really “market conditions.”
- I’ve tried calling to ask for specifics, but all I got was vague answers about inflation and repair costs.
- Shopping around helped a bit, but honestly, every company seems to be raising prices lately.

Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if “market conditions” is just code for “we felt like it.” My rate shot up after I swapped my old sedan for a (slightly) fancier ride, but nothing wild—still, the premium nearly doubled. Is it just because it’s a luxury brand? Or are they just assuming I’ll pay more because of the badge? I get that repairs can be pricier, but it feels like they’re not even trying to explain it anymore. Anyone else notice that the more questions you ask, the vaguer their answers get?
