I get where you're coming from.

“sometimes you just gotta pick your battles.”
That’s real—sometimes groceries win out over insurance add-ons. I’ve done a lot of Florida road trips with just minimum coverage too, no issues so far. Just gotta hope luck holds, honestly.

I get wanting to save wherever you can, but man, minimum coverage in Florida is playing with fire. I used to do the same thing—just enough to get by, thinking “hey, I’m a careful driver.” Then a buddy of mine got rear-ended and the other driver barely had anything. He ended up paying thousands out of pocket for stuff insurance would’ve covered. Groceries are important, but a single accident can wipe out your savings way faster than a few extra bucks a month for better coverage. Just something to think about...

Honestly, I get the temptation to just stick with the minimum, especially with how expensive everything’s gotten lately. But with the kind of cars on the road here (and yeah, I drive something a bit pricier myself), I just can’t risk it. One fender bender and you’re looking at repair bills that’ll make your head spin. Even if you’re careful, you can’t control what other people do—last year, someone sideswiped me in a parking lot and took off. My insurance covered it, but if I’d only had the bare minimum, I’d have been out thousands.

Have you looked into raising your deductible instead of dropping coverage? Sometimes you can keep decent protection but lower your monthly payment that way. Also, bundling with home or renters insurance can shave off a bit. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than being stuck with a massive bill because someone else made a mistake. Just seems like a gamble that’s not worth it, especially in Florida where storms and uninsured drivers are everywhere.
